The Saint of the Day is Saint Dominic de Guzman, priest and friar, who passed away in 1221. He founded the monastic Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominicans. An icon image suitable for use as tiled wallpaper may be found at the following web page: http://anglicandominican.com/About.dsp For best wallpaper results, I would reduce this original image to about 55% of its original size using the Windows Paint utility or other image processing software.

The Saints of the Day are Pope Sixtus II and His Companions who died as martyrs in 258, according to Katherine Rabenstein's history. http://www.saintpatrickdc.org/ss/0807.shtml
For wallpaper use, a thumbnail image of Pope Sixtus II, apparently made from a tapestry at the Vatican, may be found at http://www.christusrex.org/www1/sistine/PO-Popes.html near the bottom of the page. I have take the liberty of uploading a clipping from this image that can be loaded to use as a tiled background in your computer desktop display.
Geographically our world tour of landscapes has reached the point of moving to North America. However, I featured a USA landscape for the July 4 Independence Day. So to keep the views in proportion to land area,,we need to post an image from the region in the heart of Russia that was skipped over on July 4. Therefore the Landscape of the Day is a winter scene from the area in Russia known as the Kuzbass (Kuznets Basin) http://www.flickr.com/photos/anaderi/84742383/sizes/o/ The photographer identifies the location as the Zepenaya Mountains. This view represents an area of the world that includes the Russian oblasts of Moscow, Vladimir, Yaroslavl, Kemerovo, Kostroma, Nizhny Novgorod, Ivanova and Penza and the autonomous republics of Mordovia, Mari El and Tatarstan.

The Observance of the Day is the Feast of the Transfiguration, which commemorates the mountaintop event in which Christ was revealed to certain of the apostles in his heavenly glory, as told in the gospels Matthew chapter 17, Mark chapter 9 and Luke 9:28. Wallpaper-wise, this commemoration calls for an appropriate work of art displayed in the "centered" format. My favorite find is an image of a fresco by Fra Angelico found at the Carol Gerten-Jackson fine art site http://cgfa.sunsite.dk/angelico/p-angeli14.htm Since it was apparently painted in a non-rectangular space the graphic was filled out with white corners, which are not favorale for wallpaper use. With a little effort and care you can fix that situation using image processing software or the Windows utility Paint.

The Saints of the Day are the Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is no reliable information about them in the scriptures, but the great honor given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, reflects credit upon her parents. One ancient source, considred unreliable, gives the names of her parents as Anne and Joquim. An image of these saints, as executed in stained glass at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Macon, Georgia may be found on the following web page of the excellent site maintained by http://saints.sqpn.com/saintj20.htm. Mary also appears as a blonde child. The Saint of the Day is Mary Magdalene, first witness of the resurrection. This saint is the subject of numerous painting that may be viewed on the Internet. However, they tend to show her as a voluptuous figure, who is supposed to be a repentant sinner. The Saint of the Day is Camillus de Lellis, founder of a religious order, who passed away in the year 1614. None of the images that I found were quite satisfactory, so I modified one for use as a tiled background for a computer desktop background. The original image may be seen with the Wikipedia article about this saint: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camillus_de_Lellis .
The Landscape of the Day is a scene from Russia, in the Siberian oblast of Kemerovo in south central Russia. http://www.flickr.com/photos/martovskiy/350794400/sizes/l/ .
Screensaver Images for Sunday, July 13

Below are links to illustrations for scripture texts designated for this Ninth Sunday after Pentecost according to the Revised Common Lectionary for Year A on the "Sunday closest to July 13". (On a Windows PC, you can save the images referenced below to your My Pictures directory and set the screensaver option to a slide show of pictures in that directory including these.)
Genesis 25:19-34: - The story of the birth of Esau and Jacob, the twin sons of Abraham and Sarah and of the sale of Esau's birthright -
An illustration of the second of those events was done in stained glass as seen in the image posted here. The odd thing is that Jacob and Esau appear dressed in the attire of the 16th century AD. Ordinarily I would just post a web link, but the primary link identified by Google Image search is a dead link at this time.
Psalm 119:105-112: - An illustration of verse 105 may be found at the following link: http://www.oneyearbibleblog.com/2008/01/january-25th-on.html It a long scroll down about the middle of the web page. Look for an image with a lamp.
Romans 8:1-11: - "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you." Verse 11 is illustrated by the artwork of the late Rev. Richard Lonsdale, which may be found at the following web page. http://www.silk.net/RelEd/Year%20A/5lentA.htm © 2000 by Father Richard Lonsdale. You may freely copy this document. It may be freely reproduced in any non-profit publication. This gif file may not produce a pleasing image. If it's available, I would use the Windows Paint utility to resave this as a 24-bit color bmp file and then use the "Fill with Color" tool as you wish.

The Saint of the Day is John Gualbert, OSB Vall. Abbot, who passed away in 1073. The image here was modified for use as tiled wallpaper. The source was the Saints Dictionary: http://www.heiligenlexikon.de/BiographienJ/Johannes_Gualbertus.html. If you can't read German, you might want to read the story of this saint as presented by Katherine Rabenstein at the following web page. http://www.saintpatrickdc.org/ss/0712.shtml

Wallpaper of Friday, July 11

The Saint of the Day is Benedict of Nursia, abbot, who passed away in the year 540. He set the example for the monastic movement in the western half of Christendom. A painting by Fra Angelico was the source of a public domain image, sized and framed for use as tiled wallpaper that you will find posted here. If you think the effect is a bit grim, try it at 66% or 50% of its current dimension at which size the repearting pattern of colors will tend to dominate to overwhelm the effect of the stern visage.
The Landscape of the Day is a scene from Russia, chosen without reference to its location. I could find no suitable image from Yamalia (the Yamal-Nemets Autonomous Okrug), which would today's stop on this world tour. http://www.flickr.com/photos/_kassiopey/2147347606/sizes/o/
Wallpaper for Thursday, July 10

The Saint of the Day is Antony of Kiev, Abbot, who passed away in 1073. I found an icon with an image of this saint, but it also features a second individual, the successor of Antony at Kiev. Therefore I took the liberty of modifying this artwork to include only today's featured saint as seen here. (More information about Antony of Kiev may be found in Katherine Rabenstein's article on the following web site. http://www.saintpatrickdc.org/ss/0710.shtml ) The original image may be found at the following web site. © LasVegasOrthodox.com All Rights Reserved. http://www.lasvegasorthodox.com/index_1.htm To find this image, drill down through the following links Orthodox Library - Church History - 11th Century.

The Saints of the Day are Aquila and Priscilla, Companions of the Apostle Paul. They are not the subject of any great artwork that I could discover. However the illustration at the following location should suffice: http://www.keyway.ca/htm2000/20000524.htm. I would reduce this to about 75% of its original dimensions and apply a border for use as tiled PC wallpaper.
The Landscape of the Day is a view said to be from the Ural Mountains in Russia. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikaltu/156577118/sizes/o/ .

An icon image may be found at the following web page: http://cerkva.info/2006/06/28/manjava.html For use as a tiled background for your computer desktop display, I would put a broad border around this image and reduce it to about 50% of its original dimensions.
