Observance of the Day --- Confession of Peter the Apostle [tranferred from Sunday, January 18] On this day the church remembers how the Apostle Peter was led by God's grace to acknowledge Jesus as the Christ (Matthew 16:13-20), and join with Peter, and with all Christians around the world in hailing Jesus as our Lord, God, and Savior. (adapted from commentary by James Kiefer)
Scripture of the Day --- Ephesians 4:1-7 -- I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. [Comment: This is the continuation of a letter from the Apostle Paul, imprisoned in Rome --- or someone who has assumed this persona for pedagogic effect --- to the Christians in the city of Ephesus,; it's a combination of guidance and basic insruction in Christrianity 101]
